- This film is based on Louis Cha's final novel of the Condor Trilogy. If you want a more complete version of the story watch "The Heavenly Sword and Dragon Saber" 2009 TV series. It follows the hero Zhang Wuji, son of Divine Eagle's daughter and Zhang Cuishan, fifth brother of Wudang. The skill he learns in the tomb is called "Heaven and Earth Shift" and is the ultimate Ming skill and proof of qualification for Ming cult leadership. The secret of the Dragon Saber and Heavenly Sword is revealed in the longer TV series as is the mysterious female official whom he promises 3 favors. So, for those who are curious to her identity and wondering why this film ends abruptly, it's because this film is a "slice" of a very popular Chinese novel so what happens later is not a mystery to Chinese audiences. There are undoubtedly many film adaptations of the third novel in the Condor Trilogy and a lot of films are based on Louis Cha's other novels as well. :)
