Dyskusja o COMBAT! s.2 ep.7: "Doughboy" (1963)

- Opinie i zdania tu macie
- I didn't even notice Eric Braeden, still going by his given name of Hans Gudegast here. He was listed in the closing credits. He probably needed every paycheck he could get then until he got a steady job.
- Eddie Albert was born in Rock Island, Illinois; so he wasn't born far from his character here.

Eddie kept on exercising until he finally died of pneumonia at the age of 99, even after he was diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease. He was 57 here but look at him keep up with Vic Morrow.
- (Spoiler Alert).. Ohhh the humiliation, Sgt Saunders gets captured by Grandpa (Phil) Simpson. Sorta old dude who would make an egg & lettuce samich but forgets the egg & lettuce. But Sarge is noice to the old two penny fart & doesn't even bayonet his much younger wifey. ;)
- This is a dear drama!
It was a popular program on TV when I was a schoolchild.
- Vic Morrow was superb.Alida Valli from The Third Man
- Eddie Albert can't getaway from these farmhouses ( green acres)
- What's interesting here is that even WW 2 didn't bring peace....while filming this the USA was just entering Vietnam nam...
- As already mentioned a few times, the scenario is a bit far fetched but if nothing else, underlines once again Sgt. Saunders (as portrayed by Vic Morrow ) abundantly compassionate and human character in almost all circumstances. Merci pour le téléchargement.
- The Lake shown on the opening credits of the Andy Griffith Show was actually the Franklin Canyon Reservoir.
- Glad I saw this.  One of the more "far out" episodes, but I liked it.  My grandfather was in the 4th Battle of Verdun, 1918.  I like how Eddie Albert's shooting skills have all gone to hell, but not his bayonet training.  But, although enthused at first, my grandfather grew to hate the war, the weapons and all.  He and his unit were sent "over the top" with orders to take no prisoners.  The Germans were out of men, they were fighting with boys.  As his unit advanced, he found a German on the ground, a frightened boy as he related to my brother, and stabbed the earth between his arm and torso, so his Sergeant would see him apparently delivering the coup de grace.  He very rarely spoke of his combat experience, and then only with disgust.
- It would've been nice i they got him a purple heart.
- Always loved this series, grew up with it.
- tv's all-time best flashback runs 16:20 - 18:00
- Wholly improbable scenario. Likely a not so subtle shout out to WW 1 vets then in their 60s & 70s. The story related by Albert's character sounds like that of the Lost Battalion in the Argonne in October, 1918. As noted below, Albert was in command of a landing craft at Tarawa. His character wouldn't have known of the Thompson during WW 1 but might have heard of it during the interwar period.
- Check out eddie albert in the movie "Attack".  Excellent movie.  Lee Marvin and Jack Palance are in it too.
- I prefer b/w tv.  I think it doesn't distract from story follow.
- i do not get why they didn't just go under the bridge
- Donald Haines- Eddie Albert was not at D-Day in Normandy, he was a USN small boat commander at Tarawa, Bronze Star with combat "V" for rescuing Marines off the reefs under heavy fire.  Andy H.- Saunders HAD a .45 in that holster, Phil threw it into the bushes when he captured Saunders.  He would not have recognized the "tommy gun" if he had never been back in the States after WWI, but he would never have thrown away that Colt automatic, he would have seen those before.  There are two things about this series that bugged me, the Americans are always filthy, but the Germans are always clean.  And the Americans never call for artillery or air strikes, which they would hve been trained to do, and which the Americans had lots of.
- I appreciate everyone who has downloaded these fine shows onto YT. I'm 47 and never had a chance to watch these before. I'm addicted now and am watching each one in order. Without YT not yanking these shows I'm now in appreciation and will be getting DVDs.

Not only can you tell the quality level of the actors from then, but you get respect for the soldiers, neither you really get on tv today.
- Must be an MIA from WWl -his name is probably on a monument to the missing. Actually Eddie Albert was a D DAY hero
